Description: The journey to convert an old gas car to electric starts here! I'm getting sick of paying for gas so I decided to do something about it. I'm not much of a mechanic but after doing casual research for some time, I decided I could convert a car to run on electricity by myself. No gas/hybrid oil-burning nonsense - just pure electric all the way! Follow me through the exciting changeover from gas to electric through these videos. It's going to be many many months before the car is converted, so get comfortable. EV's are quite uncommon in NZ, in fact I know of only two in the entire country. I'm looking forward to being the third. The first step was to purchase a donor car. I found a 1987 Mitsubishi Tredia with a seized engine but otherwise in good condition for $180. After towing it home, we then had to figure out a way to get it up the drive and into the garage to begin removing the planet-killer bits under the bonnet. In the next video we start taking it apart... I can't wait to get that "EV Smile" that electric car owners talk about so much. Also, this is a new thing for me so I welcome your comments and tips! UPDATE! You can now watch the progress in detail at www.KiwiEV.com |

cant7think7clearly ::: Favorites Good for you! We're quite similar down here. 70% of New Zealand's electricity is generated by renewable resources which is great! It makes EVs a very clean option in NZ. 07-09-02 00:03:15 __________________________________________________
athlonz2007 ::: Favorites ahah if we convert a car in quebec it will be 100% ecologic because there is i think like 1 coal power thing and all the rest are hydroelectric so :) i would like to convert but llol i dont have a car 07-09-01 23:41:58 __________________________________________________
cant7think7clearly ::: Favorites That costs money. Towing with a rope does not! 07-09-01 22:01:36 __________________________________________________
cant7think7clearly ::: Favorites I think you'll be delighted (or dismayed) to know that an EV is 95% cleaner that a gas car, even when running off a coal power station. The batteries are very recyclable too. 07-09-01 22:00:37 __________________________________________________
mikenz88 ::: Favorites use a car trailer next time 07-09-01 21:58:03 __________________________________________________
mikenz88 ::: Favorites cleaner greener nz? do you realise much of nzs power is generated by burning coal and flooding valleys, not to mention the losses in power transmission. How green are those batteries youre using anyway? 07-09-01 21:56:13 __________________________________________________
rzigmu ::: Favorites Way to go!!! Forwards to a cleaner, brighter energy future!! Break free from the enslavement of oil companies!!!!!!! 07-08-11 18:18:43 __________________________________________________
terrorist420x ::: Favorites There is an EV list. Google search "electric vehicle discussion list". 07-07-21 04:25:58 __________________________________________________
terrorist420x ::: Favorites You'd basically have to build it. The Prius packs weren't meant to be deep discharged and their management system would be a pain in the ass to re-engineer. 07-07-21 04:23:00 __________________________________________________
ripperarn ::: Favorites If I were to use a toyota prius nickel metal hydride battery for a regular ev and if so what kind of charger would I use? 07-07-06 01:25:32 __________________________________________________ |
