Skip this video and go to Re: Re: words (Cont. from 1 of 2) Our knowledge of a new rule has kept us from thinking in the old way, and this can be frustrating. Which way is right? I don't think it matters. What matters here is what is meant. And that means that insisting on what we think is meant isn't right or wrong, but rather, foolish. Now consider: instead of listening to someone else, you're listening to yourself. Is it possible to misunderstand your own thoughts? (This may not be a great example to start with, but) consider words like "objective" and "subjective." Consider where they came from and how we learned to use them. And then consider how you learned to use those concepts. I'm sure there are easier examples to toy with. What do we mean when we say, "I don't know what I was trying to say," or, "I don't know what I was thinking." How do we know how to use a set of rules? We should have another set of rules. But how do we know how to use the rules for the rules? Consider this circle. No, not the arrow -- the circle. No, not the two arrows. The circle. When we learn new words (and we do, constantly, whether we know it or not, because context is always changing and the use of a word is never quite the same as it was), we sow the seeds of new understandings and new rules to play by. But, as Wittgenstein said, "The seed I'm most likely to sow is a certain jargon." Funny that in order to understand what I've said here, you've had to learn the thing I'm speaking against. In essence, I've said nothing.

Well I want to say you should write a philosophy book but I guess you already have... (Ironic on so many levels) Nice video philosophy is not something most people get. I am glad to see a few trying to bring it to more people. Personally I would prefer you to keep "rambling" about the world but that is just me. The words video was fantastic by the way.

The screen shifted again and Dors said sharply, "What's that?" She was pointing. "I don't know. Noise." (Isaac Asimov--The Foundation Series)

After listening to your further explanations. Is this not going to simply convey your meaning even less? More words. More interpretations that takes us even further away from the point you were trying to convey in the first place. These are new ideas for me. I never really knew how figurative everything was. I have a lot of questions, many questions, but how can i truely convey my questions and how can you truely convey your anwsers?

it was only "crap" because you're having trouble getting your point across. it's difficult to get the words together to flow into the magic that is your point...point...POINT
